So how has everybody been? I've been blogging on my own website, http://WhatISaid.org/blog I like Vox though, so I am going to try to blog in both places.
But the truth is, I tend to be most active on social networks than on my own blog as of late. In other words, the best way to keep up with what I am doing, thinking, reading, taking pictures of, etc. is by following me on Facebook, Twitter, Friendfeed, etc. Friendfeed actually aggregates ALL my online activity into one feed, so lately that's been the best way to "follow" me as it's sort-of a catch-all for all my various online activities. Friendfeed is great, you should try it.
It's interesting that in the "old days" when the internet was new, everybody had "home page" web sites and those pages linked to various other websites they found interesting or useful. Next came blogs, and now it's social networking sites that are the most popular. NOW, people are going BACK to having Personal Home Pages, but this time those pages have links to their various social network online presences, sort of like a Table of Contents or "jump page". My jump page is here: http://www.MyOtherStuff.net
Some cameraphone photos from a certain time period were missing from my hard drive archives, so I decided to download copies of them from my flickr account. I tried two programs, FlickrDown and Flickr Backup. Neither worked right. So what I eneded up doing was using Gadwin Print Screen, going into slideshow mode on flickr for the photos that I wanted to save, set the download directory, and then just hit PrtSc+Enter+Enter+LeftClick+LeftClick over and over (you get a rythm going) and saved every picture. I will have to crop them later, but even if I don't they're mainly on a black background (as it is in flickr's slideshow mode) and not much other windows garbage in the screenshot as I also told the browser to go into fullscreen mode before I started. So that worked as a kludge, at least for now.
Also, I have been thinking about trying an online backup service. I spent the evening checking out Carbonite and Mozy. I decided on Mozy and also am using a free trial of it for a few weeks before committing.
I am hoping that between M. & I, we can make some Imified widgets [imified.com]. I'd like one for posting messages on Pownce and one for updating my status on Facebook. Not sure if we'll pull it off, though. Imified lets you update several of your online presences at once using one interface, a Instant-Message window.
I'm tired, it's late, my brain hurts, and I'm going to bed. =:D
I have MANY blogs, too many. One time I had a really popular general blog but I got careless with it and had to start over (long story). Then the new blog never took off. One thing that I learned though is that themed blogs seem to do much better than general blogs. Like, my Pug Blog gets way more traffic than my [now-deleted] general blog did, and my new Art Blog probably gets more traffic than any blog of mine at all.
I like to try new things and you can call me "a joiner" because I sign up for everything to try, whether it's a blogging service, communication service (like twitter.com), social network (like facebook, myspace, etc.) I signed up for vox here, and I really like it. I just today signed up for Tumbr.com to try that out. There are other services that I'd like to check out, but have not yet, such as virb.com, linkedin.com, groovr.com, and many more.
But it's fun. I like to try new things. Also, it helps me to be able to help other people. It's fun to be able to recommend the perfect service to somebody and have them be really happy with it once they sign up.
I'm not sure how I got on this topic... :)
